This week marks the 50th anniversary of
Surprise's incorporation, and city leaders w
ant the community to celebrate in style.
The city's annual winter celebration, Surprise
Party, has been expanded to a four-day
extravaganza, beginning Wednesday.
Surprise incorporated in December 1960,
about a decade after the area was settled as
a farming community.

Toyota will fix 378,000 Prius hybrid cars in the United States with a coolant pump that can cause the cars to overheat.
The repair campaign covers 2004-2007 Prius models and effects about 650,000 cars worldwide, the automaker said. Toyota’s voluntary action is considered a repair campaign rather than a safety recall.

In practical terms, motorists westbound on Loop 101 will be able to exit just beyond 75th to the frontage road that will lead them to Beardsley. Traffic from Beardsley will be able to head southbound on the same frontage road to the traffic signal at Union Hills, where southbound motorists can go straight and use the existing ramp while northbound motorists can turn left on Union Hills, cross that bridge and make a left onto the northbound entrance ramp.
